  1. Inspiring video! "Go pro" is great advice. I think in addition to the benefit of not having to make a new decision every time you do something that you should be doing everyday (should I meditate this morning? should I do my breathing exercises?), the same pro attitude can help resist giving into doing what other people want you to do instead of what you think you should be doing. If it's your job, you just do it, but somehow if it's 'merely' your passion it's not important enough to say 'no' for. (posted same comment on Youtube.)

    • Absolutely Paul!  Great insight!  You just do it!  You show up and you keep showing up and yes…when you have created that resolve and HABIT…it's much easier to say no to things that you know would take you off track.

Thanks so much for that comment…very important. (and thanks for posting here on the blog in addition to YouTube)

  2. Wow! A great video! Fear of success. That thought has crossed my mind several times over the years, and I always discounted it. Making the resolution to evict that fear really feels good. Thank you also for the great movement segment. You truly have a gift of being able to break down movments that many take for granted, because the movement is automatic, a simple movement can be difficult to grasp when it is not automatic. It is exciting to be working on the building blocks of movement rather than being frustrated because advanced movements are to difficult, and the result of great effort is the perpetuation of bad habits. Thank you for sharng your gift.

  3. Fabulous video and subjects discussed!  I can't wait to let my husband watch the video on doing the exerecise for shoulder pain .  You really do have a wonderful ability for breaking these movements down so that they are clear and understandable.  Also, great reminder about what Vitamin D can do for the immune system.  I feel very inspired after watching this – thanks for waking up the positive side of my brain!!  Stay as awesome as you are.

  4. I found your shoulder exercises very helpful and I do them before I go to sleep.  I have a bad habit of sleeping on my side.  I wake up with my shoulder rolled in and near my ear and it takes hours to get them back where they need to be.  Do you have any recommendation on sleeping positions?  Thanks. Al

    • Hi Al… I also have/had issues with sleeping on my side and found your video to help. But here's another thing…. AWARENESS of your position the instant you wake. I always wondered why I'd wake up so crunched up still… then I became aware that I was "chin poking". I'd go to sleep with what I thought was fairly good posture but in fact my chin had already started to poke out and when I woke it was so pronounced. But I've only just become aware of this! So I have experimented with different pillows, and found a better one but what's also helped is that awareness as you fall asleep, then if you toss over in the night or wake in the middle of the night to instantly think of it and correct yourself so you fall asleep with posture mindfulness – being aware while sleeping is what I am aiming for! So far it has improved so I believe it'll only get better! I hope that helps….

  5. Thanks Dr Steve,

Love it as always. Really feels like you are finding the flow again. I truly respect your courage to follow your heart. Helps keep me on track. Breath, mindfulness, DNS and positive movement. Great mix. Minds me of the years of Qii Gong and Tai Chi I have enjoyed and grown with. Keep teaching please.

CC would be to keep the nutrition piece more user friendly and involve how to use foods to make the same gains as supplements. Hope you are ok with the feedback.

Beautiful harvest moon here in Devon. Met my wife under this 13 years ago. Happy man

    Thanks

  6. Thanks for the reminders to Follow Your Bliss. Wonderful advice. I hope to continue to do more and more of the things that I am passionate about. Love the shoulder exercises as well. I am always affected positively by your passion. It is contagious! Susan

  7. Hi Dr Steve,

Yet another great video to inspire us all. Thank you for your honesty in the way you teach. Seeing you learn, or re-learn concepts or ideas simply motivates me more and reminds me its ok to find yourself off track or not listening to yourself… because if you manage that step of finding yourself there – and are AWARE – then you have every chance of getting back on track. And you don't need to beat yourself up about it, you just accept that you've resisted your bliss and jump right back on track.

Yep, Dr Steve… If people tell you you're great at something, and you love it, then just do it! You only have to read a handful of comments on the blog to see it is your gift. I am sure your gift is also within the practice too, but I bet you're teaching there too. I also love teaching so I get where your head space is at. I taught photography back in Australia and now teach home composting and waste minimisation strategies for the home here in London as a small part of my work – but at the moment don't get a chance to do it as much as I'd like… I'm working on that and trying not to fear running more. I ALWAYS don't want to do these workshops and prioritise other work committments… then when I come to doing them, I love it, and love seeing the penny drop when students understand a concept. It's SO satisfying to see others learn and benefit – they are often really grateful for the workshops but really I want to thank them as it's them that are giving me something back.

So keep on teaching if it's what you love! TRUST ME! I'll be REALLY grateful!!!! 🙂 Anyway, I think the whole concept you had there was interesting and I'll try and get a hold of that book you mentioned.

Great tip on Vit D too – didn't know that aspect of Vit D at all! When I moved to London, I had never in my life been so continually ill with colds. And by chance that sort of just stopped a year or so ago. Now I know why. I started taking Vit D about a year ago because I was getting really depressed from the lack of blue skies and sunshine and it seemed to help that a fair bit… but I also noticed that even though we essentially had an 8 month winter, then a rainy and dismal summer, I didn't get any colds – or at least any that put me in bed and out of action. But I didn't know it might have something to do with Vit D! So bring it on! Thanks for enlightening me there!

Shoulder stuff… great tip on bringing awareness to the position of your shoulder and not letting the pecs roll your shoulder forward… even though I've watched your training many times you always seem to shed even MORE light (if that's possible!!) on how to do an exercise properly. I've never had such a complete lesson! Thanks!

And you've reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask. If you go about your daily activities and raise your arm in the old way and then while up, you correct it by bringing the shoulder blade down, is this ok or should you lower your arm and just do the movement again but mindfully and correctly? I wondered if the first would create half hearted pathways that maybe your brain would groove more than doing it 100% correctly…. What do you think?

Phew! Bit of a long one, but just felt compelled to write.

Finally re Al who posted a comment about sleeping on the 20th, I also have/had issues with sleeping on my side and found your video to help. So far it has improved so I believe it'll only get better! I hope that helps…. I'll cut and paste this as a reply to Al's comment… hope that's ok…

Many thanks again for the video! Kristina

    • Thanks for the comment, Kristina!

Great points about awareness in sleeping / waking.  As far as the shoulder raising…yes, optimally it’s best to do the entire movement with perfect form but you’re not going to screw up your brain if you simply correct after already being at the top of the movement.  Anytime you lower your center of gravity and get more centrated the calmer and happier your nervous system will be!
